waiting for a loving family to adopt them. Instead, it’s a place of physical labor and frequent abuse. But, what are the boys to do? Continue reading An Orphan, a Wizard, and a World of Magic Beyond Belief
I listened to the conclusion of The Aurora Cycle series by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. It’s a three-book series consisting of Aurora Rising, Aurora Burning, and Aurora’s End. All three books demonstrate, in my opinion, excellent story-telling skills. It has a plot that isn’t entirely predictable, characters that you learn to love or appreciate, action to keep things popping, and the usual romance. Continue reading A 200-yr old Teenager, a Space Elf, and a Killer-Alien-Plant
Welkin is a good boy. He follows orders. He keeps his nose clean and does what is expected of him. He’s going to need to be disciplined if he is going to survive when he reaches Earth. Continue reading Get Off The Grass!
Alyssa is an ordinary girl. Smart. Athletic. She shares the concerns of the average teenage girl. Until one day, everything changes. Her home in Southern California is frequently impacted by drought, so it’s not uncommon to hear people talking about water conservation and concern about what the world’s changing climate will mean for California’s water supply. Continue reading Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink…
If you’ve never heard of the The Princess Bride, I don’t know where you’ve been. I, like most, I’m sure, was first introduced to ThePrincess Bride in movie form. In fact, it is one of my favorite movies of all time. I’ve had the unfortunate luck however, that I’ve bought the movie on DVD four times over the course of several years, and each time, … Continue reading Inconceivable!
Two more books for the Abandoned books list: The Dinosaur Lords by Victor Milan Men and women live on Paradise, but dinosaurs predominate. Colossal plant-eaters like Brachiosaurus, terrifying meat-eaters like Allosaurus, and, the most feared of all, Tyrannosaurus rex rule the land. Seeking to centralize real power in his figurehead Fanged Throne, Emperor Felipe of Nuevaropa sets off a chain of wars that may blaze … Continue reading Dinosaurs and Field Guides
Becoming Human by Eliza Green We are being attacked… but why?! The bombs started falling just as the sun was setting into the far off hills. Humans are being systematically wiped from the face of the planet … but why? The day came at last. The day we stepped out into a new Earth. A new world. A world we never thought we could reach. … Continue reading Who is Human, Anyway?
Ahsoka is an excellent read for any Star Wars fan. I didn’t find any objectionable content in the story and would have no problem with my middle-grade and almost-teenager read it. I had a little trouble following where exactly Ahsoka was as she bounced from planet to planet (moon to moon?), but the story contained the usual Star Wars action, which is always fun for us as readers. The story also connects how Ahsoka becomes associated with the Rebel Alliance in its early days. Continue reading The Clone Wars may be over, but a new war is just beginning
In today’s blog, we continue the discussion on audiobooks, and we review books 2 and 3 in the Matt Cruse series by Kenneth Oppel. Continue reading Up, Up, and Away!
Most of Brandon Sanderson’s books are aimed at an adult audiance, but he is in the process of writing a series called Alcatraz versus the Evil Librarians. The kids and I have recently finished reading book one, and it was hilarious! We are very excited to continue reading this series.
